Before & Aftercare guidelines
For Clients of The Hijama Academy – Bahria Town Phase 3, Rawalpindi
Cupping therapy (Hijama) is a powerful detoxification and healing method rooted in Prophetic medicine. To ensure you receive maximum benefit from your session, it's essential to follow certain care instructions both before and after treatment.
BEFORE YOUR HIJAMA SESSION
To prepare your body and mind for healing:
1. Timing of Appointment
- The best days for Hijama are the Sunnah days: 17th, 19th, and 21st of the Islamic (lunar) month.
- Appointments should ideally be in the morning or early afternoon when energy is balanced.
2. Personal Hygiene
- Please bathe or shower before your session. This helps open your skin pores and keeps the procedure sterile.
- Avoid applying lotions, oils, perfumes, or deodorants to areas where cups will be applied (typically back, shoulders, legs).
3. Fasting & Food
- Light fasting is recommended (2–3 hours) before your appointment.
- You may drink water, but avoid heavy meals, fried foods, dairy, and red meat beforehand.
- Do not fast excessively if you are pregnant, diabetic, or weak.
4. Avoid These Before Treatment
- No caffeine, smoking, or energy drinks at least 3 hours before treatment.
- Avoid intense exercise, stress, or emotional agitation.
5. Clothing
- Wear loose, modest, and comfortable clothing.
- Preferably wear a top with buttons or wide sleeves for easy access to treatment areas.
6. Medications & Health Conditions
- Inform us if you are taking blood thinners, have anemia, are menstruating, pregnant, or suffering from any chronic conditions.
- Hijama can be modified for special cases, but full disclosure ensures safe treatment.
AFTER CARE OF YOUR HIJAMA SESSION
Your body will begin a deep detox and healing process after hijama. Support this phase by following the instructions below:
1. Rest
- Rest for at least 12–24 hours after treatment.
- Avoid work, exercise, long drives, or any form of physical or mental stress.
2. Hydration
- Drink plenty of room temperature water and herbal teas (like ginger, green tea, or detox blends) to flush toxins.
- Avoid cold drinks and processed juices for 24 hours.
3. No Showering for 24 Hours
- This prevents infection and gives your skin time to close.
- Avoid exposing the cupped areas to water, soap, shampoo, or lotions for one full day.
4. Diet After Hijama
Avoid for 24 hours:
- Red meat, chicken, fish
- Dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt)
- Processed, oily, or spicy foods
Recommended foods:
- Fresh fruits & vegetables
- Light soups
- Dates and honey
- Herbal teas (senna, black seed, chamomile)
5. No Smoking or Intimacy
- Avoid smoking, shisha, intimacy, and any energy-draining activity for 24–48 hours.
6. Skin Care Post-Cupping
- Mild redness, itching, or swelling is normal and will fade in a few days.
- Apply black seed oil or olive oil gently to soothe the area and assist healing.
- Do not scratch or scrub the cupped areas.
7. Follow-Up Sessions
- Chronic issues (like migraines, back pain, or hormonal imbalance) may need 2–3 sessions.
- Regular maintenance can be done every 3–6 months.
