Frequently asked questions
Have questions before booking your Hijama session? We’re here to help!
What is Hijama therapy?
Hijama (cupping therapy) is an ancient healing practice that involves creating suction on specific points of the body using special cups. It helps remove toxins, improve blood circulation, reduce pain, and treat many physical and emotional ailments. It is a Sunnah practice highly recommended by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
What is the difference between dry and wet cupping?
- Dry cupping involves suction only — no blood is drawn.
- Wet cupping (Hijama) involves a small incision after suction to remove stagnant or toxic blood from the body.
Is Hijama painful?
Most clients say Hijama is not painful, though you may feel slight discomfort during suction or when small incisions are made. The process is generally tolerable, quick, and followed by relief. Many find it relaxing.
What conditions does Hijama help with?
Hijama has been shown to help with:
- Back pain, migraines, arthritis
- High blood pressure, high cholesterol
- Hormonal imbalances, infertility
- Sciatica, frozen shoulder
- Stress, anxiety, insomnia
- General detox, fatigue & immune support
And much more — ask us about your specific condition.
Is Hijama safe?
Yes — when done by trained professionals using sterile, single-use tools. At The Hijama Academy Clinic, we follow strict hygiene, medical safety protocols, and Islamic standards.
How often should I get Hijama done?
It depends on your condition.
- For general detox or Sunnah treatment: once every few months
- For chronic issues: once every 2–4 weeks until improvement
Our therapists will advise based on your health and goals.
Who should NOT get Hijama?
Hijama is not recommended for:
- Pregnant women (especially in early months)
- People with bleeding disorders (like hemophilia)
- Those on strong blood thinners
- Very elderly or extremely weak individuals
We assess each client before starting treatment.
Can women get Hijama therapy at your clinic?
Yes! We provide safe, private, female/male-friendly treatment by trained female practitioners for women, with complete modesty and comfort.
Do I need to fast before Hijama?
Fasting is Sunnah but not mandatory. However, it’s best to:
- Avoid heavy meals at least 2–3 hours before treatment
- Come in a calm, clean, and hydrated state
We’ll guide you on how to prepare.
Will there be blood?
Yes, wet cupping involves the removal of a small amount of blood, but it’s minimal and only from specific points. We use sterile, safe techniques, and clean you up immediately after.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are rare but may include:
- Light-headedness after the session
- Bruising or red circles that fade in a few days
- Slight soreness at treatment points
- We provide full aftercare guidance to ensure your comfort and safety.
